Marjorie Garfinkel Katz, died June 10, 2026, at the age of 98. Wife of the late Milton Katz for 63 years; mother of Nancy Rose (Al), Mark Sherman (Marilyn) and the late Sherman Katz (Catherine); grandmother of Sydney Katz (Eli), Leigh Katz (David), and the late Lauren Schwartz; great-grandmother of Simi, Jake, Cole and Reese.
Marjorie lived a long and distinctive life marked by style and an unconventional spirit. One of the few female entrepreneurs of her time, she founded her clothing company in St. Louis, “Something Different by Patches,” bringing her creative vision to fashion and design well ahead of her era. She was known for never wearing anything as purchased, instead preferring to “doctor up” every outfit with rhinestones, brooches she welded herself, and her own unmistakable sense of style.
She was an avid golfer and proud of achieving multiple hole-in-ones over her golfing career. She was also a world traveler who visited destinations across the globe, including India, Australia, and New Guinea—experiences that reflected her independence and curiosity. She was always working with her hands, whether sewing, making jewelry, or decorating dollhouses. Her favorite indulgence was Parkmoor’s hot fudge cake.
Marjorie will be remembered for her individuality, creativity, and strong presence.
