Mary was born on November 29, 1944, in St Louis, MO, and was the daughter of Jaclyn Shinn. She was raised in Farmington, MO where she attended school. Mary would later move to the St Louis area where she married her husband, Don at All Souls Catholic Church. She worked at the National Personnel Records Center in Overland, MO for a time before taking on one of her most important roles in her life, raising five chaotic boys with Don. Mary gave so much of herself to make sure her family had everything they needed and more. Whether it was traveling to five different fast-food restaurants on a Saturday night (as long as no highway driving was involved), multi hour-long grocery store trips on a Sunday, working at her son's school to help with tuition, or the ten loads of laundry a day, Mary sacrificed so her family could have more. Mary was eventually able to get the boys on their own two feet when she decided to return to the workforce. Mary tried her hand at a few things before landing a clerk position at of all places, Schnucks, where she already spent plenty of time grocery shopping. Mary's social side shined through at Schnucks, as she chatted up her fellow coworkers and any and everyone who came through her line, including many local celebrities.
Mary's passion and care for her family grew with the addition of grandchildren, grand dogs, as well as her own dogs. Mary along with Don loved spending time with the grandkids and the dogs. Mary would drop everything to help with the grandkids just to spend that time with them and make sure they were well taken care of. She made sure that the candy drawer was always filled for the grandkids, since their dads never really got the same. Mary was a loving grandmother to Connor, Mckenzie, Madelyn, Landon, Maddison, Nora, and Emma.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother Jaclyn Shinn and grandmother Rose Shinn. She is survived by her husband Don, sons Chris (Jean), Josh, Scott (Jennifer), Brett (Jenny), Adam (Johnny), and all of her grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on November 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Kriegshauser Mortuary West Chapel located at 9450 Olive, St Louis, MO 63132. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 AM, with a Committal Service immediately after that at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Mary’s love and legacy will live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest in peace, dear Mary. You will forever be in our hearts.
