Mary Virginia Nelson, 88, died peacefully in her Chesterfield, Missouri, home on June 1, 2024.
She was born in St. Louis on April 26, 1936, the second child and only daughter of St. Louis-born Lewis Cass Nelson and the former Margaret Irene Taylor, a native of Liverpool, England.
Mary was a graduate of Mary Institute and Skidmore College. She was passionate about her faith and throughout the years remained vigilant in her prayers for family and friends. She founded the Crisis Pregnancy Center in St. Louis (now Thrive Women’s Health) and continued to be involved with the organization. Mary’s philanthropic zeal also extended to a number of other Christian evangelistic and humanitarian organizations.
She is survived by her younger brother, Richard T. Nelson, of St. Louis, and three nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Friendship Village Chapel, 15201 Olive Boulevard in Chesterfield on Friday, June 21, at 10am.
