Nicholas Harry Arger

Nicholas H. Arger, 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aug. 7, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
He was a devoted father to Mary (Marty) Bixby (nee: Arger) of St. Paul, Mo., Harry (Lisa) Arger of Park Ridge, Ill., and Jeffrey Arger of Scottsdale, Ariz.; devoted brother to Anastasia Arger of Godfrey, Ill., Eugenia Arger of Jerseyville, Ill., and Dr. Peter H. Arger of Philadelphia, Penn. Nicholas was preceded in death by his son, Christopher (Kim) Arger; his sister, Martha Arger; and his parents, Harry and Afento Arger, all formerly of Jerseyville, Ill. In addition to many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, Nicholas is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Kylie, Chad, Kate and Cole Bixby of St. Paul, Mo., Haley, Nicholas, Payton and Christopher Arger of Park Ridge, Ill., Annelise and Alexandra Arger of St. Peters, Mo., and Jordan Arger of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and his longtime companion, Linda Moore.
He graduated from Jersey Township High School in 1943. He proudly served his country from 1944-1946 and was a decorated World War II veteran, having served in the Pacific and being awarded various Good Conduct Medals and Citations. After his military service, he graduated with a business degree from Washington University in 1950 with high honors. He then began a prominent career as a businessman and later as an administrator for the Illinois Secretary of State until his retirement in 1999. He was an active member in the community and a member of various civic organizations, including Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the Jerseyville Elks’ Club (where he was an Exalted Ruler), and the Westlake Country Club.
He will be deeply missed by his many family members and friends as well as the countless lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
Services: Visitation at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Ave., St. Louis, MO 63108 on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment St. Matthew Cemetery.
