

Phyllis Jackson age 88 originally from Milwaukee Wisconsin became a St. Louis Missouri native, Passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. She was born on September 22, 1937 to Ollie Mae Whitmore and Theo Whitmore in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They have proceeded her in death, As her sister Ellen DeShazer. Phyllis is survived by her youngest sister Judith Whitmore and her adored children, Judith Howard and Jonathan Jackson, she absolutely loved her grandchildren, Marcus Howard, Jonathan, Kirkland Jackson, Jace, Whitney Jackson, Veda, James Jackson and Robbie Vale Jackson. She is also survived by her godchildren, Phyllis Holder, Julia Temple, Priscilla & Kenneth VanBuren.
Her husband of 64 years, Leroy Jackson, preceded her in death on March 3rd, 2023.
Phyllis always wanted to be a nurse, that was her greatest accomplishment. She not only had her RN, she achieved her BSN and her M.S. in Behavioral Sciences. Her wonderful career started at Jewish Hospital (before Phyllis served proudly for BJC for 48 years.
Phyllis Jackson was a trailblazer, she became the first Black Director of the Psychology department at Jewish Hospital. Later she used her her M.S. as head of the EAP department as counselor.
She was fashion forward and she loved expressing herself through her excellent sewing abilities. Her wonderful creations were worn by her husband, daughter, son and grandchildren.
Phyllis Jackson proudly served as an Elder at The Afrikan Village and Cultural Center.
Phyllis was also a world traveler, she visited Russia, Ireland, Mexico, Bahamas and Africa (Ghana). She would always bring home, beautiful jewelry and fabric.
Phyllis truly loved her children, Judy and Jonathan. She was a fierce protector, you didn’t mess with her kids (smile). Phyllis had undying love for her family.
Phyllis Jackson spread her wisdom, laughter and joy to everyone she befriended. She loved talking to everybody.
Visitation will be held at Kriegshauser Mortuary-West Chapel, 9450 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132, US, on June 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on June 16, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Committal Service will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125, US, on June 16, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
