My name is Joyce Noah and I am at Creve Coure Lake sitting upon the memorial bench for Ralph. It’s a lovely day and a beautiful view of the lake. Please know that while I did not know Ralph, your family has done a wonderful thing to help others remember him. 
I’m sure he was an amazing person with many stories of his legacy!

I was so sorry to hear of your loss.  The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.

I remember working closely with Ralph in our Psychology class, junior year of high school. He was one of the nicest people I have met at Clayton High School. My whole heart and condolences goes out to the Raskas family. I'll miss you, Ralph.

To the Raskas family,

No words exit to comfort you on the tragic death of Ralph Gabriel Raskas, of blessed memory. This is because the human mind is not capable of understanding or answering all of questions you surely have about Why? Why me, us, our son? How could this have happen? What does this mean?  What can we do? How could a Good and Loving God allow this to occur to us, to anyone? 

Life is filled with suffering and sacrifice. As I have been taught by many who have lived, suffered, and died in this world, we offer up our suffering to God, express our grief and mourning, cry, pray, pray even more, and slowly decide on a manner in which we can respond to our suffering and tragedy in human terms that will help others and ourselves. It is utterly futile to seek answers of Why? when that road will only lead to more frustration as our experience is beyond the human ken.

As Ecclesiastes taught thousand of years ago, life is "havel" or "fleeting" and filled with frustration.  We often feel  sense that nothing makes sense, nothing is fair or just, and life has no meaning. 

But, as this great Prophet concluded and millions of human beings have senses by sheer instinct and deep faith, our only hope, paradoxically, is our irrational faith and trust in God and the promise of eternal life for all deserving souls.  The pain does not leave but we learn to accept suffering slowly in time and we believe that the meaning of life in this world will become clear to us in the fullness of time.

May God comfort you among all of the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

May the Lord bless all of your and help you through this difficult time.
