Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Rosemary Crespi (nee Apprill); loving father of Thomas (Susan), Susan Hoeksema, Jane Crespi and Julia Crespi; dearest grandfather of Kristine, Michael, Jimmy, Annie and Alissa; dear great-grandfather of Zander, Gia, Rosie and JD; dear brother of the late Angelo and Frank Crespi; dear brother-in-law of the late James (Donna) Apprill and Anita (late Bill) Ohlhausen; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.
Richard served in the US Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII; he was a sharpshooter and was honored with the Marksmanship Medal; he was a longtime member of the American Legion on the Hill and was able to take part in the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight.
He was also a Gold Medalist at the St. Louis Senior Olympics in 2022 and 2023.
Richard was proud of his famous risotto and was published in a Hill cookbook a few weeks before his passing for his “Risotto alla Milanese”.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
SERVICE: Visitation Thursday, December 5th from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Calcaterra Funeral Home, 5140 Daggett Avenue on the Hill. Funeral Mass Friday, December 6th, 9:55 am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 6303 Nottingham Ave. Interment to follow at Jefferson Barracks with Full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s name may be made to Mercy Hospice South, de Greeff Hospice House.
