Richard “Rich” W. Gabler was called home by his Lord Jesus on May 23, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 68. In his last years, Rich fought valiantly against many health challenges and is now resting in peace.
Rich was born on February 27, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri who was preceded in death by his parents Rev. William C. Gabler and Lorene F. Gabler. Rich was a devoted husband of 25 years to his wife Theresa “Terri”, beloved step-father to Katherine Hayes (Justin), Thomas Cummings (Stephanie), and Gregory Cummings. Rich was a wonderful Papa to his three beautiful grandchildren, Reagan and Carson Hayes and Anthony Cummings. He was a beloved brother to Carole Stahlhut (Ralph) and Elaine Gabler and was a loving uncle, cousin and a dear friend to many.
Rich was a graduate of Ladue High School and then went on to graduate from the University of Missouri, Columbia with a major in History and English Education. After graduation, Rich taught at Parkway West High School where he also coached football. He then switched careers to work for Southwestern Bell, Emerson Electric (17 years where he met the love of his life, Terri), and finally Nestle Purina (15 years), retiring in 2014. In his professional career, Rich was a well-respected executive at both Emerson Electric and Purina.
Rich will always be remembered as a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tiger Football fan. Those that knew Rich, remember his love for the many rescue dogs that blessed his life, including Goldie, Black Sadie, Snoopy, Riley, Red Sadie, Bentley and Sami Jo. Rich was also committed to physical fitness, keeping journals of his progress throughout his entire life.
While Rich’s life was full of many personal and professional accomplishments, he was best loved and will be most fondly remembered as a man who was ultimately devoted to his family as a compassionate husband, son, brother, and father—who most of all loved spending time with his three grandchildren as they made big messes that only a wonderful Grandpa would find adorable.
Terri and her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the countless doctors and nurses during his 4 year battle. A special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Nurses and Company for their endless love and support as Rich’s passing grew near.
