84, died peacefully on April 30, 2011. Born February 4, 1927, Bob graduated at 16 from Clayton High School; then attended Purdue University before enlisting in the Merchant Marines to fight in World War II. He was a radio officer on one of only two underwater cable repair ships in the world.
Bob owned a multi-state manufacturing company, which he loved and nurtured with a strong work ethic, for more than forty-five years. His sense of humor and generosity were well known throughout his life.
He enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He was a fine golfer, with a lifetime scorecard of five hole-in-ones, all of which he attributed to luck. He was a licensed multi-engine, seaplane and instrument rated pilot who felt most at peace in the air. He also enjoyed boating and fishing, especially at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends.
Bob loved music. On his fifth date with Audrey, who was soon to become his beloved wife, they went to hear the St. Louis Symphony. When he enjoyed the concert she knew he was the man for her. His family will always think of him when hearing La Boheme, Beethoven, Pete Fountain, or Frank Sinatra.
Bob leaves a devoted family including his five children; James, Mary, Jean, John and Leo; two daughter-in-laws: Diana and Beth; a son-in-law Murray; nine grandchildren: Betsy (Matt), Julie (Mike), Jeffrey (Lindsay), Adam, Drew, Jennifer, Scott, Rachel, and Ian; and three great-grand-daughters; Abby, Molly, and Sarah. He also leaves sisters Dorothy and Phyllis, sister-in-law Helene, late brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be honoring a life well lived. Burial services will be private. Preferred contributions to the JCC Adult Day Care Center, 314-442-3245, or a charity of your choice.
