Roger Ng

Roger Ng, age 76, beloved friend, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on August 27, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri. Roger was born on July 23, 1950 and given the name Kin Wei Moy. At the age of 13, Roger immigrated to America by himself to live with family in Detroit, Michigan.

As a young man, Roger worked in the family laundromat and demonstrated the kind of strength, work ethic, and resolve that would serve him throughout his life. After graduating from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Roger enrolled at Wayne State University, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Roger and Cecilia Chan were married on June 27, 1976. In 1981, after making their home in Dearborn, Michigan, they welcomed their son, Benjamin, beginning a family that would grow three years later with the birth of their daughter, Jennifer, in 1984. Roger and Cecilia were married for nearly 50 years until her passing on November 12, 2025.

Roger spent most of his career as a chemical engineer with Detroit Edison (DTE), beginning in 1978. His work took him to several of the company’s power and heating plants, including Trenton Channel, Pennsalt, Fermi 1, Wyandotte North, Beacon Heating Plant, and Willis Heating Plant. Known for his hands-on approach and dedication to solving problems, Roger was highly respected by his coworkers and formed lasting friendships with many of those he worked with.

In 1990, Roger was diagnosed with a brain tumor that required surgical removal and left him with significant physical challenges. After spending two years in rehabilitation, relearning how to walk and speak English, Roger eventually returned to DTE, where he continued working until his retirement in 2006. Throughout his rehabilitation and for the remainder of her life, Cecilia devoted herself to caring for Roger, providing steadfast support, encouragement, and companionship through every challenge they faced together. Her unwavering devotion to Roger was a testament to the depth of their love and commitment to one another.

After Cecilia’s passing, Roger moved through a few assisted living and long-term care facilities. Once he was settled in, it was not uncommon to find him sitting at the nurses’ station, talking with various caregivers and therapists, and sharing his stash of snacks with them. Roger had a genuine love for people and conversation, and he had a way of striking up conversations and forming connections with the people around him, wherever he was. That ability to connect with people was just one part of a life marked by strength of character and an unwavering determination to persevere. From coming to America on his own as a young teenager to building a career, raising a family, and overcoming the devastating effects of a brain tumor, Roger faced each challenge with a quiet but unwavering resolve. Through hard work, perseverance, and sheer determination, he always found a way forward. In doing so, Roger showed his family, through the example he set in facing adversity and setbacks, that some of life’s most important lessons are taught through actions rather than words.

Roger is survived by his son, Ben (Jill); daughter, Jennifer (Derek); and six grandchildren, Jacob, Tashari, Charlie, Bella, Henry, and Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia Chan Ng.

A memorial service honoring the life of Roger Ng will be held on Saturday, October 31, at Kriegshauser Mortuary-West Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
