Ron decided to join the army after high school, and was stationed for over 2 years at a US base in Germany in the 1950s. He always remembered his association with the army. He often told the story about how he learned to drink coffee in the army, because anytime his superior saw him holding a cup, he assumed he was on a coffee break.
After the army, Ron worked in the automotive industry, eventually becoming a manager of a Kelly Springfield tire and automotive repair store in Brentwood. He was recognized twice for top 10 sales for Kelly Springfield stores in the entire country.
Ron married Mary Elizabeth Vohsen on May 14, 1966. His children were born Charles Andrew on February 17, 1967, Edward Anthony on October 12, 1968 and Susan Marie on December 10, 1972.
Ron’s greatest hobby was playing golf. He even once got a hole in one, at Ballwin Golf Club 157-yd #9 on March 1, 1997. Ron was also a fan of other sports, as he had season tickets for a few years for the St. Louis football Cardinals in the 1970s during their best years in the city. He enjoyed following the St. Louis baseball Cardinals, but the St. Louis Blues were his first love. After 51 seasons, his favorite team finally won the Stanley Cup in 2019.
After retiring from automotive store work, Ron worked many years running a home windows and siding company named Modern Exteriors, which he founded and owned. After retiring from this career, Ron sold his house he lived in for over 50 years in Kirkwood, and lived for several years at Gambrill Gardens in Ellisville. When his health declined, he lived the last few months of his life at American House in Wildwood.
