Sandra Mary O'Malley

Sandra “Sandy” O’Malley, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung and brain cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and sister-in-law who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sandy was born on December 28, 1950, and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Laboure Catholic High School in June of 1969. And she attended Saint Louis Community College to study Word Processing and Computer Systems. She married Thomas O’Malley, on February 19, 1972. They shared 54 years of marriage together.

Sandy took great pride in her work with the City of St. Louis Water Division, which she considered her favorite job. She enjoyed bringing together her knowledge of spreadsheet software and finance, using her skills to make a meaningful contribution throughout her years with the Water Division. She dedicated 21 years to the City of Saint Louis before retiring on December 30, 2016. Her commitment to her work and the people she worked with was an important part of her life and she had been honored often with Mayor’s Service Awards.

Family was at the heart of Sandy’s life. She especially cherished traveling with her grandchildren and creating special memories with them. She loved hosting family holidays and bringing everyone together for outdoor BBQ celebrations filled with good food, laughter, and time spent together. Sandy also enjoyed playing games and bingo, always bringing her competitive spirit and fun-loving personality to everything she did. Sandy loved camping and spending time in the country on the family land, where she enjoyed the peace, beauty, and memories made with those she loved.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Thomas O’Malley; daughter, Lora O’Malley Fanter and her husband, James Fanter; son, James Thomas O’Malley and his wife, Becky O’Malley; and her beloved grandchildren, Jacob Fanter and Anna O’Malley and stepgrandchildren, Eamon and Lona Floyd.

Visitation will be held at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis MO 63125, on August 30,2026 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at O'Malley Cemetery in Licking, Missouri.
