

PHELPS, Stephen Erick passed away on May 8, 2017 in St. Louis, MO from a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Coffeyville, KS, raised by loving parents, Jim and Ruby Phelps who proceeded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Phelps of 39 years; 3 daughters, Lisa (Chris) Bowles of Ontario, CA; Suzanne (Max) Phelps-Pilsl of Liberty, MO; Lesley (Clinton) Kennedy of St. Louis, MO; 5 grandchildren, Ian Orlich, Mia Orlich, Kate Bowles, Sara Bowles and Liam Kennedy; brother to Randy (Martha) Phelps of Gunnison, CO; loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Steve attended Coffeyville schools before enlisting in the Navy in 1963, serving on the USS Yosemite. He retired from a 36 year career from MO-Pac, later becoming Union Pacific. Steve had a soft heart for animals and had a best friend in his dog Max, a passion for baseball-forever rooting for the Cardinals. He himself being an accomplished player, once scouted while playing for the Navy Gitmo Team. Steve was a gentle, kind and honest man. He loved with all his heart and will be greatly missed. He will be laid to rest a Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors.
