May 1, 1950 - March 11, 2026
Thomas Patrick Lane, a man of unwavering service, sharp wit, profound kindness, and a legendary (and sometimes questionable) sense of humor, pulled his final Irish Goodbye on March 11, 2026.
Born May 1, 1950, Tom was a St. Louis native who lived a life of dedicated service. He proudly served in the United States Navy, then moved to a distinguished 36-year career in law enforcement, first as a city cop and then as a Special Agent in the ATF.
Tom was known for his sense of humor and his love for a well-executed practical joke. A highlight of his life was his 25-year stint in the Variety Guild at Queen of All Saints Parish, where he always wanted to be the jokester. He was a hard act to follow, as he often said what popped into his head at the time. Yet, beneath the mischief was a man of immense compassion and generosity.
The true center of Tom’s world was his family. He was a beloved brother to his late siblings Teresa, Ed, and Vince, and is survived by his oldest brother and best friend, Steve. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, and cherished brother and sister in-laws.
His love for his wife of 52 years, Marilyn, created the foundation of the family they built together. He is survived by his three children: Amanda, Melissa (Derek), and Adam (Rosa), who are a living testament to the love, affection, and sense of humor he instilled in them.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter in his eight grandchildren: Nora, Amelia, Tommy, Ryan, Benji, Francis, Kieran, and Teagan. “G-Pa” was their greatest champion, their funniest storyteller, and the man who taught them that a little bit of trouble-making is good for the soul.
Though he bravely fought Parkinson's for 25 years, in lieu of flowers, he would prefer donations to be made in his honor to his favorite charity, Backstoppers.
In true Tom fashion, he has slipped out the door before the party ended, likely with a wink and a joke we aren’t supposed to repeat. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ní imíonn siad uainn, ach imíonn siad romhainn. (They do not leave us, but go before us.)
