Tuong was born on February 3, 1955 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to Lam Huynh and Hao Tu. In 1978, at the age of 23, Tuong escaped from Communist Vietnam by boat to an island of Indonesia with his mother and younger brother. Tuong was then selected to immigrate to the United States and was sent to a Philipino refugee camp to assimilate to American culture. In 1986, Tuong settled in the St. Louis, Missouri area. In 1987, Tuong met and married his wife My. In 1989, Tuong’s first born daughter, Connie, was born. In 1991, Tuong’s second born daughter, Stephanie, was born. Tuong worked as a chef in a variety of restaurants including Mandarin House, Wonton King, and Ameristar Casino. Tuong worked long hours and enjoyed relaxing at home with a beer and his dog, Cody. Tuong was a caring, generous, gentle person who endlessly provided for his family. Tuong’s favorite at home activity was cooking and asking his loved ones if they had eaten yet. Tuong loved music including The Beatles and the Cantonese band Beyond.
Tuong was preceded in death by his father, mother, and several siblings. He is survived by his wife My, his daughter Connie and daughter-in-law Christi, his daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Rudy, along with several siblings, nephews, and nieces. A private funeral service will be held. Donations may be given to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the St. Louis Peregrine Society in Tuong’s memory.
