It is with heavy hearts and deep love that the Latiolais family announces the unexpected passing of Costa Joseph Latiolais, Jr., a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the rock of his family. Costa passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, September 7, 2026. He was 79 years old.
Costa was born February 27, 1947, in rural St. Martin Parish to the late Costa J. Latiolais, Sr. and the late Laurence Dugas Latiolais. Raised in a family deeply rooted in Cajun heritage, Costa was taught from an early age the importance of hard work, humility, laughter, and, above all, family. These values remained at the heart of who he was throughout his life.
For Costa, the greatest treasures in life were never measured in money or possessions. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people he loved. Family gatherings were some of his happiest moments—whether enjoying a good old-fashioned crawfish boil, sitting around sharing stories and laughter, or gathering around the table for a game of bourrée, which he seemed to always win. Those simple moments together were precious to Costa, and the memories he created during them will be treasured by his family for generations to come.
Costa had a way of making family feel like the most important thing in the world. His presence was a steady source of strength, and his love and devotion to those around him made him the true rock of his family. Though his absence leaves a tremendous void, his family finds comfort in knowing that the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.
Costa, may your soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Those left to cherish Costa's memory are his children, Costa Latiolais, III (April), Karen Latiolais Berthelot (Scott), and Kory Latiolais; his grandchildren, Toby Latiolais, Shaunna Sonnier (Brance), Shane Adams, Megan Latiolais, Kaylee Latiolais, Cassie Latiolais, Koby Berthelot, and Kortni Berthelot; a host of great-grandchildren; and his brother, Claybert Latiolais (Cheryl).
Costa was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Bernard Latiolais; his former wife and the mother of his children, Mary Doris Patin; his granddaughter, Chelsy Latiolais; his parents, Costa J. Latiolais, Sr. and Laurence Dugas Latiolais; and his siblings, Harold Latiolais and Marion Domingue.
In keeping with Costa's wishes, no public services will be held. He will be laid to rest privately at a later date.
