Born and raised in Lake Providence, Gary was born on March 6, 1948, to the late Herbert Eldridge and Hilda Gary Howard. He carried with him the values of faith, hard work, and family throughout his life.
He attended and graduated from USL in 1971, earning a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy. Gary spent his career in sales, working in hardware equipment, restaurant supplies, and eventually in his favorite industry — boats, where he found great joy combining work with his passion.
Gary loved traveling with his wife, spending time on the water fishing, and most of all, being surrounded by his family. A devout Catholic, he faithfully attended weekday Mass and Adoration, drawing strength and peace from his faith.
Following his retirement, Gary dedicated twelve years of volunteer service to Slidell Memorial Hospital, touching many lives with his kindness and generosity. He was also an avid reader, often finishing as many as three books in a single week, always eager to learn and explore through the pages of a good book.
Gary will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love of family, his generous spirit, and the many friendships he cherished throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Russell Anne Foti Howard; two sons, Gary Howard, Jr. (Cheryl) and Greg Howard (Montine); three grandchildren, Seth Howard, Justin Howard (Madison) and Darian Howard; three great granddaughters, Isabella Grace, Charley Rayne and Charlotte Frances Marie and four brothers, Charles Howard (Susan); Frank Howard (Denise); Clay Howard (Karen) and David Howard (Becky).
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Howard Patrick.
