It is with heavy hearts and deep love that the Smith family announces the passing of Harry Smith, Sr., a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Harry passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at his residence in New Iberia. He was 72 years old.
Harry was born November 2, 1953, in Lafayette to the late Denise Smith, Sr. and Eva Rose Marceaux Smith. He was raised with a deep pride in his Cajun heritage and a genuine love for the outdoors. Harry found great enjoyment in hunting and spending time in the woods, especially alongside his brother, Hallet, as they ran their hunting dogs and shared many memorable days together.
Harry was, above all, a family man. He treasured the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren especially fondly remember sitting with their grandfather as he told them scary stories. Those moments, simple as they may have been, became treasured memories that they will carry in their hearts for a lifetime.
Harry was a simple man who lived a simple life, but it was a life filled with the things that meant the most to him. He was content with his family, his love of the outdoors, and the quiet joys of everyday life. He has now gone on to his eternal rest and peace, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever hold him dear.
Those left to cherish Harry's memory include his children, Pamela Fino (Victor), Joseph “Joby” Bonin, Margo Nguyen (Christian), Michelle Smith, Marganna Dauphine (Calvin), Harry Smith, Jr. (Tameka), and Harry Albert Smith; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Hallet, Steven, Wilfred, George, Leeverne, Lillian, Eva, and Peggy.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Dore' Smith; his son-in-law, David Miller; and his siblings, Wilbert, Denis, Laonce, Irene, Kathleen, Doris, and Ethel.
Funeral services celebrating Harry's life will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with Deacon Adam Conque officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.
