CATAHOULA -Roland Joseph Breaux, age 78, of Saint Martinville, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025. He was born in St. Martinville and lived a life full of simple joys, deeply rooted in his love for family, the outdoors, and the traditions that shaped him.
Roland was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace and contentment in hunting and fishing in Catahoula. His connection to nature was unwavering, and he cherished the solitude of the land he loved. For 35 years, Roland was also known for his involvement in the Louisiana Game Breeders Association, where he fought chickens until the practice was banned. Despite the controversy, it was a passion that defined a large part of his life. A man of few words and simple pleasures, Roland's greatest joy was spending time with his loved ones. His family meant everything to him, and his enduring legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Roland is survived by his son Chad Breaux (Niki); his son Michael Breaux (Athena); his daughter Tiffany Theriot.; his sister Linda Wyatt (Harold); his grandchildren Lacy Theriot, Lexie Theriot, Loren Breaux, Abigail Breaux, and Isabella Breaux. Roland is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Kammie, Makayla, Aurolie, Mila, Jaxson, Camden, Cullen, and Everret.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Latiolais Breaux; his parents Daniel and Agnes Latiolais Breaux; and his son-in-law Louis Theriot, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Roland on Wednesday April 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Catahoula. Fr. Bill Melancon will officiate. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Dion Hall in Catahoula on Wednesday April 2, 2025 from 9:00 am until the service time. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to those who supported Roland throughout his life and in his final days.
Serving as pallbearers are Chad Breaux, Michael Breaux, Oran Theriot, Randle Broussard, Harold Wyatt, and Brent Citty.
