Virginia Marie Lewis

ST. MARTINVILLE – Funeral services will be celebrated for Virginia Marie Lewis, 81, at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 201 Gary St, St. Martinville, LA 70582, with Fr. Michael Sucharski officiating. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

Visitation will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home, 415 E. Bridge St. St. Martinville, LA 70582, from 7:00 am until service time on Saturday with a rosary being prayed at 9:00 am.

A native of St. Martinville and resident of Houston, TX, Ms. Lewis passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, TX.

Born on June 1, 1936 to the late Wilbert Lewis and Anna Declouet Coleman, Virginia was one of five children. Virginia loved to read her bible and share her interpretation and scriptures to those of open ears. She very much enjoyed her grandkids and her great grandkids and as the hierarchy of the family, her guidance and advice was nobly given and accepted. Virginia’s character and loving spirit will always be remembered along with her witty sense of humor that has forever stamped our hearts.

She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Hypolite Gammage of Houston; sons, Alcide Hypolite, Jr. of Baton Rouge and Anthony G. Hypolite of Houston; grandchildren, Jentrell Kerlegan, Ashley Hypolite Robertson, Miketresha Kerlegan, Pandorcha Kerlegan, Alicia Jones, Allison Wells, Jarred J. Joshua, Jordan Hypolite, Leafaye Hypolite, and Maikala Hypolite; and eleven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert Lewis and Anna Declouet Coleman; brothers, Willard Lewis and Wilson Lewis; and sisters, Joanna Lewis and Verdella Etienne.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Hypolite, Paul Bonnett, Emile Davis, David Hypolite, and Marvin Etienne.
