David Mitchell Meadows passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 9, 2018 after an extended illness. He was born in St. Petersburg, attended St. Paul Catholic School, and graduated from St. Petersburg High School. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1983, serving in South Korea, Okinawa, Grenada, and the U.S. He was discharged in 1988. He was a meat cutter by trade.
David enjoyed reading, playing chess, watching football, and discussing current events. He was talented at drawing cartoons and training dogs for specialized tasks. David devoted his last years in caring for his aging mother, father, and aunt. David prayed to God every day and always said good night with an “I love you. God bless.”
He was preceded in death by his father, John Lewis Meadows; his uncle, SFC Stanley E. Jordan, Jr.; his grandparents, Colonel Stanley E. and Ione V. Jordan, and Lewis and Odessa Meadows; his aunts Louise Meadows Devore and Susan Meadows Pearson; and a close friend from the Marine Corps, Kyle Jones.
David is survived by his sons, Daniel Lewis Meadows and Lance Corporal Caleb Samuel Meadows, USMC, of Gulfport, Florida; his mother and step-father, Sandra J. and Paul Kenneth Ballard of Kenneth City; his aunt, Diana G. Jordan, and his cousin, Stanley E. Jordan (Kate) of St. Petersburg; his aunt Betty S. Jordan Willoughby and his cousin, Pamela L. Jordan, of Fayetteville, NC., and his “Uncle” Charles Welch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1800 – 12th St. No., St. Petersburg by the Rev. Jonathan Stephanz on August 22, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be at the Bay Pines National Cemetery at a later date.
David was a descendant of the Maine Jordan’s and a member of the Rev. Robert & Sarah Winter Jordan Foundation, Inc.
