

ROBBINS, Donald D. 89, of Gulfport, passed away July 13, 2014 in Pinellas Park at Suncoast Hospice. He was born June 30, 1925 in Gloversville, NY to Howard and Grace Robbins. He served in World War II in the 314th Infantry, 79th Division, serving in the campaigns of Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland. He received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the Battle of the Bulge. He was past presidents of the Gloversville VFW Post 2077 and DAV 122. He is retired from the Gloversville Enlarged School District. He was a lifelong carpenter just completing 7 grandfather clocks and jewelry armoires for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by 3 children, Donald R. (Joyce) and Christopher and Sharon Putman; 4 grandchildren, Jenine (Roland) Kopet, Jessica Van Nostrand, Ryan (Heather) Robbins, Duane (Nicole) Robbins; 6 great-grandchildren, Shane and Logan Van Nostrand, DJ Robbins, Drew Robbins and Zara and Rachel Kopet. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Joan; brothers, William and Howard E.; brothers-in-law, Ike Foss, Robert Vandy; sister-in-law, Pat Vandy; and son-in-law, Robert Putman. Burial will be at Bay Pines Veterans Cemetery in October with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice, 6770 102nd Ave N., Pinellas Park, FL 33782.
