Born to Frank and Helen Nelson, Dorothy was a graduate of New Kensington High School and attended Clarion University. She enjoyed a 37-year career with Northwest Orient Airlines, which sparked her lifelong love of travel.
She met the love of her life at work, U.S. Army Colonel Stephen M. Heller. They shared many wonderful years together, including living in Germany during his 27 years of service. Together they traveled throughout Europe and Asia and especially loved cruises, boating trips, and their constant companions Max and Zoe.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Steve and her parents, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Carol Westwood (Ernest); nephews, Scott, John (Allison) and Matt; niece, Stacey Zunic (Joe).
Dorothy, noted for her fashionable good looks, will be remembered for her dry wit, her ability to spell anything backwards, and a lightning-fast game of sudoku.
The family extends sincere thanks to her friends, neighbors, and care team for their kindness. They were a source of comfort and strength to her every day.
With deepest gratitude, we also thank her nephew Scott, whose devoted care and unwavering support sustained her through the difficult years after losing Steve.
A private service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
