George Edwin Dillon, known affectionately as Eddie, was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 10, 1927 to his devoted parents, Edwin and Angel Dillon. They went on to have six additional children, Sarah, Margaret, James, Robert, Barbara and Veronica. Born during the Great Depression, they didn’t have much in the way of material possessions but one thing they did have was fierce family loyalty and a lot of love. When Eddie was a young boy, his family moved to his beloved Gerritsen Beach. There, he and his siblings spent their summers playing sports and learning to swim and fish. Eddie was 17 when he joined the Navy to honorably serve our country during WWII. Upon his return he held a few jobs but ultimately decided to continue his service to our country by joining the NYPD, eventually achieving the rank of Second Grade Detective, directly reporting to the Police Commissioner. There, he was assigned to guard Queen Elizabeth during her visit to NYC during Op Sail. But to Eddie, his greatest accomplishment in life was his five children, Madelon Glynn, (Joseph), Kathleen Maravel, (Dr Richard), Edward, (Linda), Terence, Kevin, (Lynn). He delighted in his eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Eddie was also blessed with an abundance of nieces and nephews, with whom he was extremely close, and great and great, great nieces and nephews. Upon retirement, Eddie moved to St Pete Beach, Florida where he happily spent the remainder of his life with nieces and nephews living nearby. It was a second home to his children and grandchildren who visited often. Eddie left this world on September 25, 2026, two months shy of his 99th birthday. Though Eddie spent 36 wonderful years in Florida, he decided his final resting place would be in his beloved Gerritsen Beach. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Until we meet again. Fair winds and following seas.
