Daughter, sister, wife, Aunt and friend to many, a.k.a. Nana and Aunt Glo, left us February 13, 2018 after many months on hospice care and is now home in heaven with her God and family that she was so devoted to. Pre-deceased by her husband Fred, parents Benedetto and Mary, her sisters Ida and Louise, her little brother Alvin, nephews Grant and Jimmy, along with so many more … all of whom were sure to be a part of her welcoming committee asking her “what took you so long?”
Gloria was born on October 14 1923 in Shelton Connecticut where the family ran and operated a local grocery store. The family moved to St. Petersburg Beach when she was a young girl and it was there she met the love of her life Fred DuBois, and they were married in 1950. Fred passed away in April of 2015 followed by her little brother Alvin in January of 2017. Those two events left her heart broken and anxious to join the rest of the family in heaven, and at 94 years young, who could blame her? Gloria passed the day before VALENTINES DAY, so it is wonderful to think the two were dancing together, shed of their old bodies, which is really perfect as their love was pure and she just could not wait to be with him again. She would tell us regularly that she could see FRED in the clouds with his hand reaching for her saying “come on Glo-ee, what’s taking you so long?” She said, with a huge smile on her face, that she had a great conversation with him on Wednesday of this week.
Fred and Gloria loved to go to the mountains on vacation every year because there was no one more in love with nature than Fred, and no one more in love with Fred than Gloria! They went to South Carolina to see the leaves change and also enjoyed many train rides together. Gloria worked as a legal secretary in downtown St. Petersburg for 30 years at the Law firm of Carey and Harrison, and even after her retirement, Gloria took care of many people she called her wards … she paid their bills and made sure that they were looked after properly. She did this with an open heart as only she could.
Gloria is survived by many family members and friends …none more heartbroken than her nephew and niece, Al and Liane Bennati and their spouses Susie and Teri. Al and Susie kept she and Fred well fed for years with gourmet meals she enjoyed so much. Also heartbroken are her niece Susan and her son Christopher, also nieces Lynn and her daughter Christie, Kaye and Roberta. Gloria had 5 children in her life that called her Nana … Al’s boys, Trey and Trevor had Gloria all to themselves for many years as children when their Nana would come over and play with them EVERY Sunday after church. Liane’s triplets, Jake, Grant and Gabriella thought of Nana as their Grandmother who always had such a wonderful attitude and was so much fun on their visits. She adored them all.
She never wanted to be a burden to anyone, and she wasn’t. She was kind, non judgmental, loving and sweet beyond belief. Her private caretakers as well as the wonderful care from loving hospice staff, all fell in love with her which is totally understandable. She will be missed beyond our ability to communicate.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, February 22, at 10 am at St. John Vianney Church, where Gloria was a parishioner for nearly 75 years. The church is located at 445 82nd Ave. St. Pete Beach. If sending flowers, the red rose was her favorite. If you wish to send a donation in Glorias name, please consider St. Johns Vianney Catholic church or Suncoast Hospice.
