Harry P. Metz, 83, of St. Pete Beach passed away on April 27, 2024. He was born on April 28,1940, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Kathryn and Walter Metz Jr. Harry graduated from Boca Ciega High School in 1958. He grew up working the fishing boats out of Pass-a-Grille and obtained his Captains papers on his 18th birthday. He captained the Lucky Strike for Captain Hubbard and the Thunder for Pasco Packing Co. He was employed as a crew member on a Coast and Geodesic Survey ship during the early 1960's. He was drafted into the US Army in 1963 during the Vietnam War. He served 23+ years in the military police. Upon his retirement he returned to Pass-a-Grille and his family home. He was a Commissioner on the St. Pete Beach city council, district 4 and Vice Mayor 2007-2009. He was President of the Veterans of South Pinellas County for several years, helping veterans in his community.
Harry is survived by his wife, Moon, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Metz, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday May 17, 2024, at the Beach Memorial Chapel, 301 Corey Ave, St. Pete Beach, FL 33706 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans of South Pinellas County, 4669 Gulf Blvd #305, St Pete Beach, Fl 33706
