Joan Hill was born Joan Marie Adams on December 26, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York to parents Charles V. Adams and Isabelle Koneman. She attended St. Sylvester Elementary School and Dominican Commercial High School. Joan was always an excellent student achieving high marks in all subjects. She loved to sing and play the piano and performed in a number of school plays. Upon graduation from high school, she entered the work force as an executive secretary in New York’s advertising industry.
Joan met her first husband, William “Bill” Ennis from Queens, NY and they were married on September 7, 1957, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church. Joan and her husband moved to Selden, Long Island, NY and were blessed with four boys: Bill, Tim, John and Don. Joan and her family moved to the mid-west for a time, living in Columbus, Indiana and Dayton, Ohio. In addition to raising her family, Joan worked as an administrative assistant for several local churches and schools. In 1978 the family moved to Gainesville, Florida.
After losing her husband to illness, Joan found love again and married Charles “Glenn” Hill in 1981. Glenn had two children of his own, Amy and Dan. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family and delighted in being a grandmother to her numerous grandchildren who filled her with much joy and happiness.
Joan loved the beach and spent many vacations at her favorite locations, Panama City and St. Augustine. Throughout her life, she was an avid baseball fan rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Mets, then switching her alliance to the Florida Marlins. She also enjoyed good food and reading books.
After her husband Glenn passed away, Joan moved to Jacksonville to be closer to family and eventually settled in St. Petersburg. In her later years, spending time with family was the thing she cherished the most. Joan will be best remembered for her zest for life and spirit of fun and adventure.
