John Robert Phillips Jr.

March 23, 1956May 2, 2020

John Robert Phillips, Jr., 64, of St. Pete Beach passed away May 2, 2020 at home surrounded by loved ones. John was born in Youngstown, Ohio and raised in Warren, Ohio. He graduated from the College of Wooster followed by a move to St. Pete Beach, Florida where he attended and graduated from Stetson University College of Law. He was preceded in death by his father, John Phillips, Sr. John is survived by his daughter, Emily Allard-Phillips and son, Jackson Phillips; fiancée, Jennifer Colwell; mother, Margaret Phillips; siblings, Mary Ann Littrell and Peggy Law. John had a personality too big for words. Described by his family, friends, and strangers as friendly, loving, and funny, he enjoyed nothing more than spending his time laughing and talking with those he loved. Whether as attorney, vice mayor, neighbor, or mere acquaintance he would always lend a helping hand and a warm smile. He brought joy and good times to all those lucky enough to be his softball teammate, golf partner, drinking buddy, and friend. John had many strengths and exceptional qualities the greatest of which, many would argue, was being a Dad. His infectious smile and loving personality will be remembered by all who knew him.

John’s celebration of life is being planned and will take place in St. Pete Beach, FL. To follow along with the updates of those plans please join the Facebook group: Celebrating the Life of John Phillips.

Met John at Stetson Law in 1982. He became my best teammate and competitor in flag football, basketball, softball, and golf. Spent hours at “quick lunches”, “just one beer” turned into 3 day weekends. He was too enthusiastic and fun to leave behind. He was the ultimate at bringing people together and making everyone feel they were not only important, but crucial to the effort at hand. He handed me numerous clients and always had my back. He was extremely loyal to all his friends. He was so proud of Emily and loved her dearly. John will always be Florida to me. The Prince of St Pete Beach.
