In 1960, the Hollar family returned to the States and settled in St. Pete Beach, FL where Dick attended Madeira Beach Junior High School. Dick then moved on to Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, FL where he was a standout in the discus for the track and field team as well as a starting offensive and defensive lineman all 3 years earning multiple All-Florida accolades for the Bogies. Dick attended Princeton University and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree in economics.
Dick (now Bear), forged his career in the field of medical billing and healthcare practice management working mostly for Shared Medical Systems in Wilmington, DE. Bear married Barbara Hollar (nee Tilton) on July 17, 1970, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, Pennsville, NJ and went on to have one child, Alexander. Bear and Barbara lived on beautiful Alloway Lake in Alloway, NJ until 1999. He and Barbara moved down to the Florida Keys and enjoyed the life of fishing and boating, along with working at the Guidance Center of the Middle Keys. Bear’s work for Physician Practice Management Systems took them to New York’s Hudson Valley before they moved back to the Sunshine State and eventually settled into his childhood home in Pass-a-Grille, FL on the island of Vina del Mar.
Bear’s passion, besides his wife Barbara, was gourmet cooking. Extensive travel around the world inspired his hobby, with his most loved destinations being Spain and Portugal. Bear was also an avid fisherman, both in his home state of Florida and in many other exotic locations.
Bear is predeceased by his brother, William Jr. and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara, son Alexander (Shannon) and three grandchildren, Delanie, Alexander and Quinn.
