Mr. Robert Legier Weinfurter Jr. died at Largo Medical Center on January 30, 2019, in Largo, FL at the age of 71. Robert is survived by his wife, Debba Hall Weinfurter; children, Lisa Ferrer & Eric Weinfurter and his wife Nicci; grandchildren, Sarah Ferrer, Hannah & Hunter Weinfurter; step-mother, Anna Weinfurter; brothers, William Weinfurter, Henry Brown, Joseph Brown. He is preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Poppell; father, Robert Legier Weinfurter Sr.; and step-father, Henry Brown Jr. Robert Legier Weinfurter Jr. was born on December 26, 1947, in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Tarpon Springs High School in 1965 and delay enlisted in the United States Marine Corps(USMC) in March of that same year. After graduation, he promptly reported to Paris Island, S.C. on July 5th and went on to serve his country proudly for two tours in Viet Nam volunteering to go Sept ‘66 - Feb ‘68 as a member of the 3rd Reconnaissance (Force Recon) with the 3rd Marine Divisions and 2nd Marine Div. at Camp Lejeune. He married Debba Hall, on Jan. 5 1969. After serving 4 years as a Marine, Robert enlisted in the Army Reserve and served as an AP until 1986 where he was then Honorably Discharged from military duty. Robert also served his community as a member of the Tarpon Springs Police Department for a short period of time before his step-father, Henry Brown, enlisted his services in the family business, Brown’s Heating and AC, originally of Tarpon Springs, FL and then in Homosassa Springs, FL, where he and his 3 brothers worked together in the family business. Additionally, Robert was employed by Southeastern Freight Lines (20 yrs), Marshall Protective Services, and in his last few years following his faith, and his heart, becoming an ordained Minister. Robert Legier Weinfurter Jr. loved the outdoors and was passionate and knowledgeable about every aspect that had to do with hunting, fishing, and camping. Never one to back down from adventure, in his later years he set his sights on a pilot’s license and flew a single-engine airplane under the watchful eye of an instructor. Eventually, his diabetes prevented him from completing this endeavor. Robert’s children, Lisa and Eric, remember him as a kind, gentle father who encouraged them to pursue their own path. He was a servant leader throughout his life and diligently studied everything that interested him. A funeral is scheduled for 11 am, March 1, 2019, at Bay Pines National Cemetery with a reception to follow at the family home. Chaplain, Lt. Col Linda Pugsley, USAF/Aux will officiate the ceremony with 3rd Recon Marine Corps League providing military honors. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Robert Legier Weinfurter Jr.’s life. The family would like to thank the extended family, all of the dedicated caregivers and hospital staff, for their care and dedication.
