Sandra E Ballard
December 15, 1943 – January 27, 2019
Sandra Jordan Ballard was born in Miami Beach, Florida in 1943 and grew up in St. Petersburg. In her pre-school years (2 ½ - 4 years old) she took part in swimming exhibitions at the Spa Pool, Weeki Watchee State Park, and various other sites throughout Florida as a member of the Jordan “Swimming Army Brats”. Sandra attended Norwood Elementary School, Lealman Junior High School, and graduated from Northeast High School. She attended St. Petersburg Junior College and studied sociology and psychology. She worked as an insurance underwriter for private agencies for many years before joining the Pinellas County Health Department, where she worked for 30+ years and retired as a Staff Assistant to the Director of Environmental Health Services. In addition, for several years Sandra was a member of I.A.T.S.E. and worked part-time as a theatrical stagehand (wardrobe and spotlight) and as an assistant film projectionist at a drive-in theatre. For many years Sandra was a member of the Reverend Robert and Sarah (Winter) Jordan Foundation, Inc., as one of the descendants of the Maine Jordan’s. She attended and enjoyed many of their triennial reunions. Sandra was an avid reader, liked to draw and write poetry, and had a great love for nature and wild life. She had a very kind and loving heart toward her family and for those in need.
Sandra was preceded in death by her son, David M. Meadows, who passed away in August of 2018; her father and mother, Colonel and Mrs. Stanley Earl (Ione V. Hayes) Jordan; her brother, SFC Stanley Earl Jordan, Jr.; her grandparents, Colonel and Mrs. William V. (Anna P. Davis) Hayes; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Mary "Mamie" Thorndyke) Jordan; her uncle, Mr.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul Kenneth "Budd" Ballard of Kenneth City, her step-daughter, Jocelyn Ballard-Rheinsmith; her grandsons, Daniel Lewis Meadows and Corporal Caleb Samuel Meadows, USMC, of Gulfport; her sister, Diana Gloria Jordan and her nephew, Stanley Earl Jordan III (Kate) of St. Petersburg, her niece, Pamela Lynn Jordan and sister-in-law, Betty Faye Stephens Jordan Willoughby of Fayetteville, NC., numerous friends, and her dog, Babs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Jonathan Stephanz of St. Paul Catholic Church, 1800 – 12th Street North, St. Petersburg 33704, February 15, 2019 at 10:30 AM. Sandra will be interred at Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
