Virginia Maxine Labaw

January 7, 1932April 6, 2018

Virginia “Maxine” Labaw, 86, of St. Pete Beach and formerly of Marysville, OH, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018. She was born on January 7, 1932 near Marysville to the late Kenneth and Ada Coons Rogers. During her years in Marysville, OH, she worked as the Secretary at Edgewood Elementary School and later was head of the Purchasing Department at Goodyear Tire & Rubber. She was active with the Mary Chapter No. 9 Order of the Eastern Star, Kings Daughters Circle of Remembrance, Child Study Club and First Presbyterian Church of Marysville. She married now deceased Eugene C. Nicol of Marysville and had two children, daughter Rhonda Nicol-Perin (husband Carl) of the Dallas – Fort Worth, TX, and Terry Nicol of Winter Haven, FL. She is also survived by her step-daughter from her marriage to Birch Labaw, Joanne Labaw Pupova and her two step-grandchildren Veronica and Bethany from Seattle, WA. While married to Birch, Maxine worked for the Palms of Pasadena hospital in an office job. But the hospital was recruiting many nurses from Canada, for which Maxine became a surrogate mother after hours and on the weekends. They created a position for her as an Assistant Nurse Recruiter and she and Birch would pick them up upon arrival at TPA airport, help them find apartments, cars and everything else they needed. This was her passion, and many loved her as their Mom away from home. Her ashes are to be laid at rest next to Birch Labaw at Bay Pines National Cemetery 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL, at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 19,2018 with a celebration of life following at Beach Memorial Chapel 301 Corey Ave St Pete Beach, FL from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm The family would like to thank the staff at Grand Villa of Pinellas Park, St. Pete General Hospital and Palms of Pasadena Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veterans non-profit of your choosing. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.beachmemorialchapel.com for the Labaw family.

Dear Rhonda and Terry. I saw your Mom’s obituary in the Marysville paper and I wasn’t sure who she was until I really looked at her face!!!! I knew it was Maxine. I always thought she was a beautiful woman. My heart hurts for you both. You are in my thoughts and prayers. My mom has been gone 3 years now...,,her memories are what I treasure. Love to you both. ❤️

Terry & Rhonda:
So sorry to hear about your Mom and my friend. I have been terrible keeping up with people in recent years and feel badly I didn't try to contact her. She would occasionally call me and we would talk and share memories of when she lived in Marysville. She was a fun lady!

I know you will both miss her and my heart goes out to you.

Dear Rhonda & Terry, I am so sorry to learn of your mother's death. I had tried to stay in touch with her but the last few years my cards were returned. She & your dad were such good friends with my parents - John & Jeanne Dodge. What fun times they had together - also with Gary & Nadia Higinbotham. Your mom was a very special lady - always looked beautiful where ever she went. I loved to hear her laugh. She will be remembered!
Do not know if you know my sister, Chris Dodge, passed away on February 28, 2017 suddenly. Heart. She would have turned 65 in September 2017. She is missed & will be remembered also.
Love & hugs to you all,
Merrill & Linda Dodge Rausch
