Amelia L. Adams passed away peacefully on November 24, 2018. Amelia was born on June 19, 1932 in Dobbin, Texas, the daughter of Herman Adams and Mattie Bates. Amelia relocated to Houston, Texas at the age of 16 where she graduated from Jack Yates High School. Amelia had aspirations of becoming a teacher, and moved on to attain a Master’s Degree in Education from Texas Southern University. After a successful, 32-year teaching career with the Houston Independent School District, she retired in 2004. After retirement, Amelia remained active in the educational community. An avid reader, who believed in education, she continued on at Houston Baptist University, in a part time role, assisting students with their grammar and comprehension, on all forms of written projects. She continued this passion by helping students with reading comprehension, by facilitating weekly workshops. Amelia was an active member of Westbury United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for many ministries and outreach. Her favorite pastime was gardening and spending time with family and friends. She touched many lives with an understanding and compassionate ear. She believed in the idea, that we must do all that we can to avoid doing what we must not. One of her favorite mantras was “Live, Love, Laugh often”. Amelia leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Karen, sons Rudy (Sanya) and Winston (Bridgette); grandchildren, Sasha, Amelia (MiMi) and Charlie; great grandchildren, Leah and London, as well as a host of loving siblings and other family members and friends.
