Angelita G. Vela

Angelita G. Vela was born on August 2, 1931 to Gregorio Guajardo and Librada Olguin on a ranch outside of Refugio, Texas, one of six sisters and three brothers. The family lived in various places in south Texas, finally settling in Brownsville. She married Robert G. Vela in 1948. They had eight children. In 1961, shortly before Hurricane Carla, the family moved to Sugar Land. Six years later, they settled in Stafford, where she lived for the rest of her life. In 1968, Angelita began working for Texas Instruments, a job which she loved. Retiring in 1991, she spent her time traveling, enjoying her family, and going to church. Until she became ill, Angelita prayed her Rosary every day and attended weekly Mass in her parish, Holy Family Church. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved in-laws, Martin and Manuela Vela of El Calaboz, Texas; her son, Martin Vela of Stafford; her grandson, Robert Anthony Vela of Beijing, China; her sister, Margarita Villarreal of Mathis, Texas; her brother, Santiago Guajardo of Altus, Oklahoma; and her brother, Manuel Guajardo of Huntsville, Texas. Angelita is survived by her husband, Robert G. Vela of Stafford; son, Robert and Hope Vela of Sugarland; daughter, Norma and Elmer Hall of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter-in-law Kathy Vela of San Antonio; son, Raymond Vela of Stafford; son, William Vela of Stafford; daughter, Melinda Vela of Fresno; daughter, Yvette and Joe Longoria of Fresno; daughter, Yvonne Vela of Stafford; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-children; brother, Gregorio and Diana Guajardo of Mercedes, Texas; sister, Isabel Montemayor of McMinnville, Oregon; sister, Sofia Gomez of Los, Fresnos; sister, Fela Smith of Carrollton, Texas; and sister, Antonia Barrientos of Brownsville. A wake service and Rosary will be held at Earthman Funeral Home in Stafford on Thursday, February 9, 2012, with visitation from 5-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Zapalac, C.S.B. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City on Friday, February 10, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. with Rite of Committal following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas.
