

Anthony was one of fourteen brothers and one sister. God touched Anthony early in his life. He accepted the Lord as his Savior at Shilo Baptist Church where he sang in the youth choir. Anthony graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High where he played football and ran track, and he also attended and graduated from Indiana State. In California he attended Bay Cities Bible Institute, in Houston he attended and graduated from College of Biblical Studies.
In 1965 he moved to Oakland, California and joined Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, in 1978 God called Anthony into the ministry, he has been teaching, preaching, mentoring and singing the Gospel. In June of 1978 he was joined in holy matrimony to Bonnie L. Green-Hatfield. In October 1981 moved to Houston where he worked at Imperial Sugar in Sugarland, Texas and in 1982 he was called to his first pastoral at Camp Zion B.C. in Wharton and Mt. Zion B. C. in Lane City, where he served faithfully and from there, he accepted the calling to pastor New Zion Bethel B.C in Wharton, Texas, 1993.
Left to cherish Anthony’s memories is his wife of 48 years Bonnie Hatfield, brother Eddie Hatfield (Nina) in Tucson, Arizona, his daughters Starla Hatfield-Washington (Arthur), Peaa Hatfield- Jackson (Alonzo) in California, Lekethuia (Fernando Martinez), grandchildren, Tevin, Jordan, Christopher and granddaughter Ashley, great-grandsons Cameron and Caydon, godson Keywand and a host of nieces and nephews, and brother and sister-in-laws and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Camp Zion Church, 6400 W. FM 1161 Road in Wharton, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m.
