Born on December 22, 1945, in Chihuahua, Mexico and moved to the states in the late 1960s. She lived with her uncle Mike Silva in Houston, Texas, graduated from Austin High School, married her first husband, Hector Rocha in 1969 and had their two daughters, Yvonne and Zamieleth. While that first marriage was short, she soon met her second husband, Louis Sinclair and their 50-year partnership ended when he passed in May of 2022.
After she arrived in the States, not having an immediate family in Houston, Aurora developed a strong bond with the Oyoque Family, who took her in as one of their own. That relationship provided her with a strong family community, and she was embraced as a daughter (“hija”), aunt (“tia”), and friend (“comadre”). She was a strong female role model for both her girls as well as the multitude of children in the Oyoque family.
Aurora was ahead of her time, as a strong (some say ‘stubborn’), independent woman raising two girls and served as the sole financial supporter of the family. She dedicated 20 years to the Harris County Hospital District to provide for her daughters which allowed them to participate in after school programs at Ripley House. She had a great resolve to create a different life than hers and knew that education was the key to her daughters’ future success and that was priority one. As a result, the girls are first generation college graduates of the University of Houston and continue living in their mothers’ example…as strong and independent women. Her legacy passes on to her three grandchildren and the many children she took under her wing along the way.
Aurora worked hard and did not have any traditional hobbies, however, most Friday nights, you could count on her playing poker or loteria until she retired. During her retirement, she devoted her time in helping to raise her three grandchildren as well as spent her time fishing with Louis. She fully enjoyed and had a passion for fishing... she really, really lived for fishing. Every chance they got, if they weren’t home, they drove to their favorite spot in Kemah. She truly loved the water…in life… as it seemed to bring her peace and happiness.
She moved to Brookdale Independent Living in 2020, reluctantly but surprisingly created a wonderful camaraderie that she referred to as her “homies” that provided her with a sense of purpose and importance that would carry her through, up to the day of her passing. She loved her “homies” and they adored her unconditionally.
As mentioned above, Aurora was preceded in death by her 2nd husband, Louis Sinclair, her first husband, Hector Rocha and sister Sophia.
She is survived by her two daughters, Yvonne Rocha Contreras (husband, John Contreras), Zamieleth Villasana (husband, Fernando Villasana), her three grandchildren: Nicolas Villasana, Sophia Contreras and Olivia Contreras, her stepson, Hector Rocha Jr. (wife, May Rocha, two daughters: Lily Rocha and Eva Rocha), and of course, a significant number of the Oyoque family that were always a huge part of her life.
