Bonnie Jean Bereswill passed away Friday, the 13th of February 2026, at her home in Houston surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the 26th of October 1932, Bonnie was one of 4 girls. In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, William J. Bereswill whom she loved deeply until his passing in 2000; she always said, “he was the love of her life”. She and Bill moved to the Chicago area in the 1960’s and then to Houston in 1972. She would proudly proclaim “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!”. She became a fiercely devoted Texas Longhorns fan and enjoyed many UT football games, including the 2006 National Championship Rose Bowl! For many years she was a volunteer, with her husband Bill, at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, donning red boots and a red hat!
She loved her family and most of her life centered on her four children. She enjoyed many family trips and countless holidays with them. Bonnie was a great cook, preparing many meals for family celebrations, including her famous “Italian spaghetti”. She loved coffee, warm weather, beaches and sunshine taking many trips with Bill and her family to the Caribbean, Mexico, California, Florida and Hawaii as well as internationally to many countries in Europe.
She was known as “Gammy” to all, her greatest joy in her life was her eight grandchildren and her seven great grandchildren (with two more on the way!) Gammy was a great listener to the grandkids, her love was boundless; she always created fun special projects and had toys and treats for them. They all knew she loved birds, pandas and pigs! She has blessed our family with a special and lasting bond among the grandkids and even the great grandkids, that is her greatest legacy. She loved little children so much, seeing the great grands was a special time and she always had a wide smile and hugs for the great grands even in her last week of life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her son, Ted Bereswill as well as her sister Gloria Held. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Sue Kean Walker (Grady); Sally Douglas (Bob) and Vicky Landin (Lorenzo); daughter-in-law Kim Long Bereswill; grand children Katie Kean Cornelison (Garrett); Jenny Kean Morrison (David); Becky Bereswill Jackson (Ken); Allison Bereswill Boulle ( Nick); Emily Ann Douglas, Nick Douglas, William Landin and Charlie Douglas; sisters Marion Karin and Cindy Fenske (Rick) ; and 7 great-grandchildren; Walker, Jack, Callie, Freddie, Barrett, Celine and Leo.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 28th at ten o’clock in the morning at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 1111 St. Joseph Parkway in downtown Houston. Immediately following the Mass, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in one of the Cathedral’s adjacent spaces. Following the reception, the family will gather for a private Rite of Committal service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the Fort Bend Wildlife Rescue, the San Jacinto Girl Scouts, the Galveston Bay Foundation or the charity of your choosing.
