She retired at The Houston Ind School District (1970-1998) as a teacher of Mathematics and Driver Education. She stated at her retirement ceremony that this is not the ending but the beginning and she carried that message as she taught principals daily in the field service.
She was preceded in death by her father Kyle Childress, Mother Vella Perkins and brother Lee Edward Perkins.
She is survived by her husband John Chaney, Son John Jr., daughter Sandra Chaney Sheppard and sister Lola Hopkins, grand children Shawntay and Tim.
