

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carter Lee Hood, age 98, of Houston, Texas, he passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Carter was born on December 28, 1926, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and accomplished taxidermist. Carter's passion for preserving the beauty of wildlife through taxidermy led to his work being displayed in museums and admired by many.
Carter is preceded in death by his son Brad Lee Hood and brother John Harvey Hood. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joyce Hood and his son Mark Hood and his wife Kim, his grandson Brandon Hood and his wife Lina. He had one great-grandchild 7-month-old Ella Marie Hood, whom he adored, and nieces Donna Lemons and Cindy Harrington.
Carter was a special man full of knowledge and a love for life. He had a collection of some of the rarest birds available in the 70s and 80s, species that are no longer present in the US today. His expertise in hunting and fishing was unparalleled, and he took great pride in the friendships he made through his taxidermy work.
In addition to his taxidermy skills, Carter had a variety of hobbies that he enjoyed, including caring for birds, plants, minnows, turtles, and raccoons. His knowledge and passion for these interests were evident to all who knew him.
Carter's legacy will live on through his work, his memories, and the impact he had on those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, Texas 77055.
