

Mrs. Artis was born Charlie T. Parker on May 3, 1954 in Schlater, MS. She completed high school at Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood, MS and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Education at Langston University in Langston, OK. While in college she played clarinet in the marching band and became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
Charlie worked for over 20 years doing Records Management for companies in the Oil & Gas field, most recently as an employee of Access Sciences Corporation. Outside of work, Charlie loved watching karate movies at home and playing softball in the Harris County Senior Softball League. She was a member of The Church at Bethel’s Family in Southwest Houston and served as a Greeter in the Reception Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents H.T. and Essie Mae Parker (O’Bryant) and her brothers Charles Long and H.T. Parker, Jr. (Bo).
She is survived by her husband of 41 years Darryl Artis, her son Roshaan Artis and daughter Andrea Artis, her grandchildren Jasmine Lopez and Trey Artis, her siblings Lawrence and Fannie Kearney of Chicago, IL; Mary Long of Huntsville, AL; Elizabeth Parker of Memphis, TN; Freddie and Ethel Pitts of Chicago, IL; Cynthia Parker of Fort Washington, MD; Melba Parker of Memphis, TN; Doris Cheeks of Greenwood, MS; Linda Parker of Memphis, TN; and John and Joyce Greer of Madison, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
