At 18 years of age, Daphne left her home in Scarborough, Tobago, West Indies to study nursing in London, England. After 4 years, she left London to work for the Zambian government in Africa for about 4 years.
Daphne got married to Ingebrit Toppe, a Norwegian, and resided in Oslo for about a year before migrating to America.
She resided in the Washington Metro area for about 2 years before finally settling down in Houston, Texas, where she resided for over 30 years. During those years, she obtained a BSN and worked in several hospitals including the Harris Health Systems.
Daphne was the only child for her mother Inez Robert, who passed away in 2008. She is survived by her cousins Paul Arnold and Pauline St. Cyr of Maryland, Peter St. Cyr, Pamela Frection, Colin and Christopher Roberts, her adopted sister, Ayanna Akilah of Trinidad & Tobago, and her adopted daughter, Christine Walters, of Texas.
It is no secret that Daphne "fought the good fight" with all her might with chronic diabetes. However, she faced the battle like a champion - never asking "why me?" To accomplish this, she was blessed with the very kind love and support of several family members and dear friends - too numerous to mention. However, the family would like to give a special thank you to Albert Allicock, Ike Frank, Rochelle Gaspard, and Darnette Hill for their tireless friendship, kindness, and support. Thank you!
