Donald (Don) T. Simmons passed away on January 25, 2025 at the age of 82. Don was born in 1942 in Darby, PA. A big man with a big personality and even bigger heart, he will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years Linda Rogers Simmons, his daughter April Simmons Haag, her husband Jeremy and their three children Jack, Tom and Ben. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Wesley Simmons and Anne Montgomery Simmons nee Baxter, and brother Charles Wesley Simmons and is survived by his sisters Virginia Foreman nee Simmons and Judith Stimson nee Simmons.
A bit of a renaissance man, Don had many interests during his life from sailing to cycling to RVing to birding to, most recently, photography, for which he won several art prizes as an active member of the Art League of Fort Bend.
But above all things, Don was a teacher. Though he came to the profession late at age 50 after a career in industrial equipment sales, teaching was truly his calling. For the next twenty years Don enriched the lives of his students at Garcia, Sartartia, and Quail Valley Middle School with his unique brand of humor, enthusiasm and high expectations, both in the classroom and as a sponsor of the school's MathCounts expectation, which he coached to the Texas State competition for nine consecutive years.
Don will be buried in Missouri where he was in the process of moving to be closer to his grandsons, with the intention of taking up the role of their #1 fan with the same passion that he brought to everything he did.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions be directed to Shriners Children Hospital https://donate.lovetotherescue.org\ and or Gulf Coast Bird Observatory www.gcbo.org .
