Donna-Lynn Diao Suckow

Donna-Lynn was born on April 6,1967 to Rolando “Don-Don” Diao and Erlyn Young Diao in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines. She was the eldest of three siblings: brother Jose William and younger sister Melanie, who preceded her in death.

In 1972, the family immigrated to the United States, and settled in Oak Park, Michigan. After high school, Donna studied at the University of Michigan where she completed her BA in Psychology. She then went to Wayne State University, in Detroit, MI, for her Master degree in Social Work with a Mental Health Concentration. After moving to Texas, she studied at Texas Woman’s University, for her MBA program, graduating with 4.0 GPA.

In recognition, Donna was listed in the “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.” Donna was certified and approved as LCSW Supervisor, LMSW-ACP/LCSW, and LMSW by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners. She was an Employee of the Month awardee in September 2003 and a recipient of the Heart of MD Anderson Hospital Award.

Donna was married to Paul Martin Suckow, a marriage that celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015. Donna Lynn unexpectedly died on October 21, 2015 at the age of 48 in Houston, TX. Donna is survived by Paul, loving husband; Erlyn Young Diao Del Carmen, dear mother; and her beloved brother, Joey. Mother in law Louise Suckow, siblings in law Tim Suckow and Diana Guest. Sister in law Dinah Diao and nieces and nephew Lauren, Joey and Juliana Diao.

Influenced heavily by the legacy of her late father, Donna’s “heart of service” was shown by her more than 16 years supporting cancer patients at MD Anderson, most recently as Assistant Director of Social Work. Donna regularly supported churches and life transformation programs across the globe. A Donna Diao Suckow Memorial Fund will seek to continue her commitment and passion to serve the poor and needy.
