ELIZABETH ALLISON GILBERT, age 87, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011, in Sugar Land, Texas. Elizabeth was born in Paducah, Kentucky, April 20, 1924, to John Allison and Ila Earnhardt Allison. Ila died as a result of childbirth, so Elizabeth was raised by her family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Elizabeth graduated from Lone Oak High School in Lone Oak, Kentucky, in May of 1941, and married James B. Gilbert of Paducah. In the mid-1950's, James began a globe-trotting career with Standard Oil of New York. After spending thirty years in the far corners of the world, James and Elizabeth returned to their Houston home to enjoy the benefits of retirement. James died in February 2008, and Elizabeth relocated to a retirement apartment where she remained until the last month of her days. Elizabeth is survived by her two sons, Houstonians, Jimmy and Barry Gilbert, their spouses Sue and Janice; three grandchildren, Laura Gilbert Rice, Christine and Carissa Gilbert; and two great-grandchildren, Rhett and Madeleine Lorfing. Elizabeth also has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Beach of Paducah, Kentucky. The family would especially like to thank the caregivers of Advocate for the Independent, the staff of Colonial Oaks and the physicians and staff of M. D. Anderson Hospital, for their diligent care and attention to Mom's every need. A Visitation with the family will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Earthman Southwest Chapel, Stafford. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 10:00 AM. Elizabeth will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery.
