In her earlier years in Jamaica, she attended Morris Knibs Preparatory School and later Ardenne High School. Erica migrated to the United States when she was 16 to join her mother, her late grandmother, Ida Ellison, and many other family members. She attended St. Helena’s Commercial High School where she excelled in her studies and achieved second honors in all her subjects.
She lived in Brooklyn, NY for many years, where she earned her CNA. She worked for over 25 years in the medical field where she also excelled; she was noted for being conscientious and very hard working. She was recognized by St. Luke’s Episcopal Health for her outstanding contribution during the flooding of Tropical Storm Allison. She earned fifteen and twenty year’s certificates of appreciation for her "dedication and contribution to making CHI St. Luke’s Health one of the best in healthcare".
Erica spent the last 24 years with her partner, Joseph August, to whom she dedicated loving care through his prolonged battle with the complications of diabetes. Joe passed away on November 5, 2022 just a few days before she did. The word Erica used when expressing how Joe treated her was, “kind!”
Erica leaves behind her mother, Joan Campbell, her aunts, Merna Campbell, Clarice Isaacs, and Beverley Campbell-Lamar as well as many cousins including the Isaacs, Michelle Barrett, the Trudels, the Chevannes, and the Dennys. She had a very special relationship with her cousins Sandra and Steven Isaacs, Ava Jex, Cedric Campbell, and her dear friend, co-worker, and neighbor Winsome.
Her family will deeply miss her “whatever, whatever!” saying, her enjoyment of curried goat, fun and joyful laughter, larger-than-life presence, and exuberant personality. She is greatly loved.
