

Fines Wilbert Bass, Jr. was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 14, 1945, and was called to rest the evening of Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his residence in Houston, Texas. His parents were Edgar Williams and Frankie Lee Hayes. Fines Bass was 77 years old.
Fines graduated from high school in South Bend, Indiana, and continued his education at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. While at Indiana University, he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and graduated with a Business degree in Accounting.
On August 29, 1970, Fines Bass was united in marriage to Mary Ethel Weymon in South Bend and their marriage produced three daughters, Reva (Bass) Soyemi, Nikki (Bass) Cavanaugh, and Kimberly Bass.
While a college student at Indiana University in 1969, Fines also worked at Bendix Automotive in South Bend as an accountant for five years. In addition to being a college student and working at Bendix, Fines joined the Reserves of the United States Marine Corps. In 1974, Fines was appointed a Sergeant Reserve of the United States Marine Corps. Fines also worked for an additional five years as an accountant at Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana, until he passed the Certified Public Accountant exam becoming a C.P.A. The family moved to Houston, Texas in 1980 and Fines worked as a CPA at First City Bank. Eventually transitioning from the banking industry to the education industry, he was the Senior Manager of Budget at Houston Independent School District for 25 years where he retired. At the height of his life, Fines Bass enjoyed being a member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, reading, playing golf, and traveling. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Fines is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Franklin Roberson, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Bass; a daughter and son-in-law, Reva Soyemi and Dr. Olusola Soyemi; a daughter and son-in-law, Nikki Cavanaugh and Michael Cavanaugh; a daughter and granddaughter’s father, Kimberly Bass and Antowain Smith; God daughter, Jamie Holman (the parents of James and Alice Holman); four grandkids, Finest Smith, Caleb Cavanaugh, Jacob Cavanaugh, and Rachel Soyemi; a sister-in-law, Barbara Roberson; two nephews, Larry Roberson and Kevin Roberson and other relatives and friends.
