Gladys Monica Kaluza Thurman passed into the arms of God on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Gladys was born at home on the family farm in Ammansville, Texas on November 27, 1936 to John F. Kaluza, Sr., and Anna Belick. She was proud to be the youngest of twelve. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Phillip Thurman, and by her five brothers and six sisters: Lilly Demel, Eddie Kaluza, John Kaluza, Annie Hollas, Martha Berger, Emil Kaluza Herbert Kaluza, Alice Ermis, Estelle Bohac, Melvin Kaluza, Pauline Trefry.
Gladys was very proud of her family upbringing on the farm and shared many stories about growing up: picking cotton by hand from sun-up to sun-down, dragging the cotton sacks up and down rows, walking to the one-room school house, and even dancing with her brothers and sisters and Czech farming-community.
After graduating LaGrange High School, Gladys made her way to California to become a business woman. There she met her husband of 56 years, Edward. He followed Gladys back to Texas and they married on February 27, 1960. It was love at first sight and from there they made their home in Houston where they were active in the church and shared many adventures together. They enjoyed traveling , slots, cards, and sports. Gladys set an example for her four daughters working as a finance professional, winning many awards in customer service and sales, finally retiring from Chase.
Gladys "Sue" Kaluza Thurman is survived by her 4 beloved daughters, Jacki Mikel and husband Ernest, Janet Littlefield, Gina Thurman, and Gayle Randall and her husband George; grandchildren, Shannon Risner, Keith Risner, Joshua Littlefield and wife Jennifer, Dusty Mikel, Joey Mikel, and Amy Mikel, Sarah Randall and Matthew Randall; great grandchildren, Michaela Risner, Kolby Risner, Dominik Perez, Aiden Perez, Nathan Perez, Alexa Perez, and Jackson Littlefield and Nathan Littlefield.
