Hannelore "Hansie" Storace Hayes

March 15, 1941April 2, 2013

Hannelore (Hansie) Elisabeth Storace Hayes, age 72, of Houston, Texas, passed away at 9:15 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Southwest Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 15, 1941, in Innsbruck, Austria. She was the daughter of Sgt. Samuel A. and Martha J. Storace. Hansie came to the United States in 1957.

She began working in the food services industry, employed by Harry M. Stevens, at the Summit in Houston before moving to the Astrodome. There she was the manager of the Astrodome gift shops, a job that she loved and took great pride in for many years. When Harry M. Stevens was taken over by Aramark, she stayed with the company and was still employed at Minute Maid Park until her death. She made many friends over the 30 plus years she was employed by the company.

Hansie was confirmed in the Catholic faith at an early age and was a life member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 5619. She loved working in her garden, reading good romance novels, crocheting blankets, and could be found on Sunday afternoons dancing to country music with friends. Hansie will always be remembered as a loving mother, and grandmother (Oma).

She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Storace, and mother, Martha Storace. Hansie is survived by her son, John Anthony Hayes, of Houston; daughter, Michele Martha Pharr, of Bryan, Texas, and her husband Jarrod; grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Tyler David Pharr, Thomas Michael Pharr, and Lauren Elisabeth Pharr; sisters >Edeltrude Sonnier, and Maria Brewer; and numerous other loving relatives.

Michelle, although we have never met I knew your Mom. Betty and Joe are my parents. I remember the very first time I met Hannelore. Yes, way back in 1957, when I was 6 years old. Uncle Sam brought Aunt Martha and all the girls to Poppy's house. I will never forget it. I thought they were all fascinating, and oh so interesting to listen to their exotic language. Actually I was mesmerized. I had cousins from a far away place spending Christmas with us. I remember it snowing. . . the day they arrived and the girls were so excited to see the snow. She will always be in my heart. I wonder to this day if that was just the beginning of my journey to far away places. Your Mom touched a lot of people and she will be missed for it. Loss can be so hard, so when you are sad, remember your Mom touched a lot of peoples lives and she will be missed for it.
