Helen came to Texas from North Carolina in 1997 to be near family. She moved from Galveston to St. Dominic Village in Houston when Hurricane Ike flooded her apartment just before her 100th birthday. While in Galveston she was an active member of St Peter church and the UTMB OLLI program. Recognized as the oldest active OLLI at age 99 in the summer of 2008, she participated in her last OLLI class at Holly Hall in 2010.
Helen graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1930 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a minor in Modern Dance. She taught physical education for 26 years. She received her 50 year pin from the Girl Scouts of America in Dallas in 1970.
She is predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents, two older sisters, her younger brother and six nieces and a nephew. She is survived by her son John (Judy) of Galveston and her daughter Ann Koval (Tom) of Missouri City, five granddaughters, one grandson and seven great granddaughters and four great grandsons. She will be interred with her late husband in Charlotte, North Carolina at a later date.
