Herminia M Williams

April 2, 1928November 1, 2020

Herminia, lovingly known as Minnie, was born on April 2, 1928, to Lucia and Alfredo Montalvo in the charming south Texas town of San Benito. Herminia Montalvo Williams peacefully passed away on the evening of November 1, 2020, in Sugar Land, TX. Minnie graduated from San Benito High School in 1947, and one of her first jobs was working for the Bracero Program alongside her Aunt Marcella Montalvo. She married Howard S. Williams on April 26, 1953, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in San Benito. After honeymooning in New Orleans, the couple set up residence in Houston where their first four children were born. They moved to San Benito in 1962, and Minnie gave birth to her fifth child. The family moved back to Houston in late 1963, where Minnie remained for the rest of her life.

Minnie was a delightful person with a keen sense of humor who brought smiles and laughter to everyone she met. She loved to keep busy and loved dancing, music and sewing. She volunteered at her children’s schools as both a Homeroom-Mom and a Band Mom. Once her youngest child started school, Minnie went to work for Chevron Oil Company until her retirement. She made life-long friends at her workplace.

Minnie was a devout Catholic. She and her cousin, Lucy Chimelak, volunteered as Eucharistic Ministers at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Community. They dispensed the Eucharist to the elderly and homebound church members. She was also an active member of the senior group called the Mavericks.

Minnie is preceded in death by her parents Alfredo Montalvo Sr. and Lucia Montalvo, her former husband, Howard S. Williams Sr., her brother Alberto Montalvo and sister-in-law Rosie Montalvo, Alfredo Montalvo Jr. and sister-in-law Idalia Garcia Montalvo and her cousin Lucy Chimelak. Minnie is survived by her children: Samuel B. Williams and his wife Melinda Williams, Mary W. Davis and her husband Thomas Davis, Howard Williams Jr., Patricia W. Prasher and her husband Gary Prasher, and Lucy W. Ellis and her husband James Ellis. Minnie’s grandchildren include: Matthew Davis, C. Barrett Davis and his wife Dr. Tracy Cable, Alex Ellis, Justin Ellis, Julian Henry and Sophia Henry. She is also survived by her Aunt Marcella Montalvo and her cousin Delia Tucker along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Earthman Southwest Funeral at 12555 S. Kirkwood Rd. Stafford, TX 77477. My abuelita was a great source of joy in my young life, and the diligent mother of five. Her roots in the Southern Texan valley region of San Benito provided me with a passion for Latin culture and language. Call Tivo aka Dr. Carlos Larralde at (909) 372-1349 for more info.

Her spirit will live with us going forward. We love and miss you grandma!
